Getting Started
The good news about getting started as a conscious creator is that you don't need
to buy any expensive materials or perform any elaborate rituals. The
bad new is that we don't have any elaborate rituals or specifically
laid out plans to eternal salvation.
Here's
another little bonus that you don't see very often: NO PSYCHIC TALENT
REQUIRED! That's right, absolutely no psychic ability at all required.
All you really need is to have an open mind, self honesty, and learn
to develop your sense of self awareness. Developing your 'psychic abilities'
can certainly help you on your path, but they are not necessary.
Exercise
One - What You Know About The World
Get a pen and piece of paper. Now, write down the following:
"I know...." and write down everything you know about the world. Next,
do the same thing only write about yourself instead of the world.
Done?
Good, now replace each "I know" with "I believe." Congratulations!
You have just crossed the threshold into conscious creation.
The
one rule in conscious creation is that: YOU CREATE YOUR OWN REALITY!
By doing this exercise, you have begun to lay out the exact manner in
which you have ALREADY been doing exactly that. Everything you thought
that you knew about the world is now 'just' a belief, whether you consider
it a good belief or a bad belief is up to you.
No
doubt that at this point a million "buts" are popping into your mind.
That's okay, write those down too. Ask yourself what have you got to
gain by believing in certain things? What have you got to lose?
What
you can gain from believing in conscious creation, at the very least,
is a much greater sense of self awareness. You will become much more
conscious of your daily thoughts, recognizing the ones that are helping
you and the ones that are keeping you from the things you want in this
life. You can reveal to yourself the areas in which you don't really
love or accept yourself, and learn to heal them. Just think of all the
money you'll save on therapy!
What
can you lose? Time, perhaps. Should you decide that this was a wasted
effort on your part. Your grip on reality? You will certainly develop
a new perspective on reality, one that doesn't necessarily fit with
everyone else's, or even the vast majority of the world, but you'll
have to decide for yourself whether or not you create your own reality,
or does the world create it for you.
A
big question for newcomers to this philosophy is: How much of reality
do we create? There is no simple answer here, since opinions vary. However,
the overwhelming majority of channeled information I've read asserts
that we create everything, right down to the smallest blade of grass.
I've come to believe this is true. If you doubt your ability to create
something in such detail, think about your dreams for a moment. Dreams
have all the background scenery (and sometimes more) as waking life
does.
Here's
my perspective on things in a nutshell: The universe we experience is
not really solid and physical, but instead made up of probable events.
Each one of us creates our own space continuum, drawing into our experience
those events (and people) that fit into our belief systems one way or
another. Everyone you encounter then, is not by chance or accident,
but by design. They're playing a role for you, and you for them. (More
on this later.)
If
this sounds like too much for you to grasp, a simpler version of YCYOR
states that you are responsible for yourself, your actions, and the
choices you make. Your beliefs act as a filtering system for the way
you interact with the people and events that you encounter. In this
view, the earth is real, and maybe one of a zillion probable earths,
but you don't change probable worlds by changing your beliefs. You can
only change things by taking some sort of action in the world.
One
of the key differences between believing that you create your own reality
or only create it up to a point, is a belief in the existence of 'victims.'
In the first view, each person creates and accepts everything and everyone
they encounter. If they experience being mugged, raped or killed it's
because they chose to bring that event into their reality via their
own beliefs and expectations, even if they are not yet consciously aware
of the 'reasons'. In the second view, a person can believe all they
want in a safe universe and still be mugged while walking down the street.
I won't profess to really understand this view. IMO, reality creation
either works, or it doesn't, and if it doesn't work for you then you
might want to find something that does work for you. (The
information in this site will be geared toward the "you create everything"
view.)
Exercise
2 -
Spot the Waking Dream Symbols
Since everything we experience
in reality is actually our own creation, paying attention to the details
that cross our path throughout the day is a very worthwhile and revealing
exercise. Each of us creates a host of personal symbols, some are communicated
via television, some through personal experiences, keeping an open mind
can help you become more aware of the reality you are creating.
For
example: If you love butterflies, then they could be a symbol of joy
in your life. While more conventionally it might be seen as a symbol
of transformation (like the Death card in a tarot deck). Seeing a butterfly,
whether a real one, or on TV, or a picture of one, could be a reflection
of your joy, or a reminder to tune into your joy, depending on your
state of mind at the time.
You
might want to make a list of your most potent symbols. Don't worry if
your mind goes blank at first (mine always does when presented with
something like this) just remind yourself that you are going to keep
an eye out for them.
Here's
a few clues that might help:
What makes you think of
home? (Note smells, sounds, songs all count)
What reminds you of love?
What about death? How do
you feel about death?
Do you have a lucky symbol
or number?
Do you have an unlucky one?
(Ex: Bad things happen on Friday the 13th)
What
you think about these symbols is as important as recognizing them. If
you do have bad or negative symbols, you should look to see whether
it's because you believe that you are victim to some outside force.
Remember, YOU are the creator here, these are only reflections of what
it is that YOU are creating.
A
Perspective on Mass Events
The concept of "you create
your own reality" seems easier to apply when you are alone in a room,
interacting only with your own thoughts and feelings. Taking these ideas
"outside" the question immediately comes up: If I create my own reality,
and Bob creates his own reality, whose reality is it anyway?
How
do mass events work? It seems impossible for everyone to have absolute
freedom in creating their reality while interacting with others. What
about conflicts and arguments? If we each create our own reality, wouldn't
we just create easy, cooperative exchanges? Furthermore, if I really
do create my whole reality, are there really any other people in it?
Or am I alone in my hallucinations?
Starting
with the last question first, we are only alone in the sense that we
are all aspects of "All That Is," we spring from the same source and
are all reflections of the same light. In this respect we are also never
alone, for the beings we interact with via dreams and imagination are
every bit as real as your neighbor across the street.
Onto
the subject of Mass Events; for starters I will define what I see as
a mass event. A mass event is any event that involves more than
one entity (person). Whenever two or more entities interact, we experience
a chosen part of the whole interaction. We choose this part via our
beliefs and expectations involving the person(s) that we are interacting
with, and they do the same.
As
two entities come together to interact, every possible outcome of that
interaction that these entities want to experience will be explored.
Each focus (or probable self) will branch off to explore these different
situations. These might be dramatic, life changing events, or small
seemingly (to the rational mind) unimportant events. At the entity level
though, any interaction explored would be done so for reasons of growth
and value fulfillment.
Below
is a picture which demonstrates two beings interacting. The areas where
the lines intersect are the actual events that these enitities have
chosen to experience, these events are all probable events based on
one encounter, none of the events are necessarily more real than the
other.
Diagram concept by Thomas
Burke,
artwork by Kristen Fox
and John McNally
Let's
call Soul 1, Bob and Soul 2 Jane. This picture represents the first
time the two souls met. The intersection points marked in red are events
where they decided to communicate and interact directly. Since there
are three of these, then there are three avenues of interactions they
chose to explore together in some form of close relationship. This could
be as lovers, or even bitter rivals, the essence behind both would be
the desire for communication that brings them together.
The
blue highlighted areas are slightly less direct, they know each other
as casual friends or co-workers, exploring a less intensive relationship.
There is communication, but not as intensive as the relationships explored
in the red areas.
The
green points represent the variety of other ways in which they can interact,
though it may seem to be less directly impacted in waking reality. One
example of this is that Bob may love Jane from afar, but never tell
her his feelings, so while she has a major impact on his life, there
is no direct communication. Another possiblity is that Bob is a character
that Jane has read in a book. Bob represents all the qualities Jane
wants in a man, and has a direct impact on her reality, but there's
no direct communication because she believes he's only a fictional character.
Of
course, this example is simplified, and only represents one small slice
out of linear time. Bob and Jane could change the nature of their relationship
at anytime, drifting apart, or coming together. Each probable Bob and
each probable Jane will explore those avenues which bring them the most
value fulfilment.
Now
here's a mindblower! The entity Bob and the entity Jane do not have
to associate with the same interaction point. Have you ever spoke to
someone who remembers an event totally different from the way you did?
You probably just thought that "they" were mistaken, and that person
would be thinking the same of you.
Now
look at the diagram again. Consider that Bob might remember an experience
from the red highlighted area, while Jane remembers it from a blue one.
Both have completely valid memories, they have chosen to associate it
from different probable perspectives. We are not limited to any event,
we are as free to change our pasts as we are to choose our futures.
Notice
how the two souls are centered separately, despite their many points
of interaction. Look at the way in which their energy radiates outward
toward each other, this is how we perceive things in physical reality.
Depending
on Bob's probable perspective, he will perceive a different aspect of
Jane. Bob will interpret the energy that projects from Jane according
to his own beliefs, and Jane will do the same for her image of Bob.
No
matter how directly they interact, neither one of them can ever know
every aspect of the other. The parts that interact directly, and change
with each other over time will reveal more of themselves than the aspects
that have only a casual relationship, but Bob will always be seeing
his interpretation of Jane in his reality, and vice versa.
You
might ask what is the point of adopting such a philosophy? What good
is it? The answer is that once you accept that everything you experience
is your own creation, and once you realize that nothing occurs in your
reality without your explicit permission. It opens the door to much
easier creation, and releases the need for struggle. Accepting that
it's your beliefs that create every nuance in your experience is the
first step toward harmonizing those beliefs and your life.
