Illusions:
Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah
by Richard Bach
(Review by Kristen Fox)
This
book really plays with the ways that we can consciously create our experiences.
It doesn't just talk about HOW we create, but through the story, plays
with the ideas of what we think of as "real" and offers a great story
of expanding beyond what we consider our "normal, human" limitations.
It's an easy read, is very clear and nontechnical, and has everything
from barnstorming, levitating wrenches, spontaneous guitar playing, and
a surprise ending, as well as the manifestation of a blue feather - ooooh!
<grin>
From
the Book Cover: A lighthearted
mystical adventure story about two barnstorming vagabonds who meet in
the fields of midwest America because each is doing what he really wants
to do. Illusions is a companion story to Bach's previous work, Jonathan
Livingston Seagull. "What if somebody came along who could teach
me how my world works and how to control it? What if I could meet
a super-advanced... what if a Siddhartha or a Jesus came into our time
with power over the illusions of the world because he knew the reality
behind them? And what if I could meet him in person, if he were
flying a biplane, for instance, and landed in the same meadow with me?"
From such thoughts - this huge "what if" - comes Illusions and the fun
and constantly mind whirling dialogue between a guy named Richard and
a real Messiah who quit. The book will mean different things to
different people... an entertaining story of miracles on the flickering
screen of this world... a startling book about reality and the appearance
of reality... a look at the way many of us could live, and the way some
of us do. It is a book to challenge and perhaps change your life.

Jonathan
Livingston Seagull
by Richard Bach
(Review by Kristen Fox)
Ever
felt that you were an eagle among turkeys, that you wanted to stretch
your wings and fly beyond the limits we've accepted as a culture?
This is the story of a seagull with delusions of grandeur <grin> and
the challenges and successes he has with following his heart and his joy,
and how his relationship to the other seagulls changes as he grows.
Another easy/quick read - an "adult" book but kids would easily "get"
it - maybe even faster than some adults! Comes with lots of insert
black and white photos of seagulls in flight and at rest and in between.
From
the Book: "Richard Bach with
this book does two things. He gives me Flight. He makes me
Young." - Ray Bradbury

One
by Richard Bach
(Review by "Jon")
"One"
by Richard Bach - This is a short fiction novel in which Bach explores
the concept of simultaneous time and parallel realities in the form of
anadventure. He and his wife get lost in their plane and then begin an
adventure meeting other aspects of themselves in parallel realities. It
has the usual charming Bach prose while giving a wonderfully entertaining
and clear example of how we can shift from one reality to another and
create miracles and happier lives for ourselves since time is an illusion.
The story must seem really nutty to people who don't know conscious creation;
but for those who know about parallel realities
and non-linear time it's a delight. I recommend it highly both as entertainment
and as an aid to more easily picturing those abstract concepts that Seth
and others told us about but our minds couldn't quite get a handle on.
From
the Book: "I gave my
life to become the person that I am right now. Was it worth it?"
"Would we change if we knew what waits beyond time and space?"
